Janet's Curb Appeal Checklist

Getting ready to sell?

Curb appeal can often mean the difference between a house selling in a few weeks or sitting on the market for months. If you can get the buyers out of their car and through the front door, you've passed a big hurdle in selling your home.

Remove any building materials, scrap wood, discarded household items, etc

Store garbage cans in the garage

Clear obstructions and moss from the roof

Clean gutters and make sure they are hung properly

Clean windows and cut back plants that block the view

Prune bushes, trees and shrubs

Inspect paint and siding. Is it in good condition? Repaint if needed

Power wash siding (if needed)

Inspect front door and paint or replace if needed

Replace plain doorknob with something more attractive

Add mulch to flower beds and prune any plants that need it

Mow and edge the lawn as needed

Get rid of weeds

Add a small flowering plant in flower pot near the front door

Don't Forget the Rear View

Buyers doing a drive-by will try their best to see your backyard. If it's visible from another street or from someone's driveway, include it in your curb appeal efforts.

Neighbors

Finally, if you have any pull at all with your neighbors and their yards are in terrible condition, ask them politely to clean up the yard. Offer to help or maybe spend a little money on your neighbor's yard if the situation is that bad. One pallet of "donated" grass and a weekend installing it may end up returning thousands of dollars when your home sells.
